![]() As the CEO has spoken they expect more profits and I believe they are going to push more DLC and new games for 2021-2023 than their last 3 years. Many investments are turned out unsuccessfully. Paradox has invested quite a large sum over the past 3 years and they are nowhere near what they are hoping to be. Amplitude, Stardock, Mohawk, etc… all making historical or else but not high-fantast setting. Aside from Master of the magic of course but because of the investment limitations, I don’t believe it’s going to be presentable enough for a wide audience, even though it can be quite an entertaining game for the niece audience. In the foreseeable future, there are no major titles for high-fantasy turn-based 4X game.With the conclusion of the Planetfall, I believe it’s quite certain to expect a new AoW game for 2 reasons. I’m still having a great time with harder difficulties on a huge map, where I craft my own stories as I play. I remember it as a great revival of the series and my memory was correct. EVERY map is a story mission, during which you're making persistent progress.With the recent announcement of ‘Master of magic’ remake, I immediately reinstalled AoW3 and playing every time I get the chance, since. There's a sprinkling of story in it via the official scenarios, but most of it is driven by a metagame meshed into how people actually play. The game is a procedural framework now for telling the stories of your pantheon of demigods as they settle the multiverse. I think they've realized this is the way the community is leaning, and honestly, I'm incredibly delighted by it. I don't want the studio to spend 40% of their time developing handcrafted scenarios which would represent <5% of my total playtime. ![]() Now I'm not going to begrudge a story existing, but with a finite number of developer-hours to spend on a product, what I want is primarily rock solid core systems. It's not how I ever spend most of my hours playing an Age of Wonders game, and that's true of a lot of people. While I like the idea of a story being existing, and there being a framework mythology for the game to exist in, it's not even close to the drawing point of the game for me. ![]()
